A fantastic evening was hosted by the District Grand Prefect, RW Bro Colin Woodcock, in the comfortable surroundings of City University Club (a new venue for the AMD London). The evening started with a drinks reception and canapés followed by a great meal where old and new friends shared their experiences of this particular and very special Order.
The dinner was rounded off with a speech from the District Grand Prefect emphasising a very successful year within the Order in terms of new joiners, with the highlight of the year being the Consecration of the new Council Goose and Gridiron which meets on a Saturday. He also explained his vision for growing the membership of the London District even further.
He thanked everyone for attending, with special thanks to the team that helped organising an excellent and memorable evening.
The name “Goose & Gridiron” is a direct reference to the ale-house that was located in a section of London known as St. Paul’s Churchyard, and where – officially – the Grand Lodge of England was founded on 24 June, 1717. The Council’s name, therefore, is a timely reminder of our Masonic heritage in this the tercentenary year of Craft Masonry. It also, of course, a reference to St Lawrence the Martyr and the manner in which he died – an event that plays a crucial part in one of the Allied Masonic Degrees.
