Appointment of New District Prefect for London

Brethren of London AMD,

As probably my last communication with you all, I have the greatest pleasure in announcing to you that I have received a letter from the Grand Secretary informing me that the Grand Master - M. W. Bro. Thomas Firth Jackson - has considered the succession in London and appointed V. W. Bro. Scott Cargill to the position of District Grand Prefect.

I have attached the letter for your interest and information.

This is excellent news for London AMD and for Scott who thoroughly deserves this promotion. He has worked long and tirelessly for our District, and I am sure that he will take it to further success and strength and that you will all give him your support and friendship as you have, unfailingly to me, since my own Installation. I will thus retire as your District Grand Prefect at midnight on Monday 27 October 2025 and Scott becomes, at that point, Deputy District Grand Prefect in charge and his Installation will take place at the regular District AGM on Saturday 15 November 2025. I am sure you will be there in record numbers to support him.

From me - a final massive thank you for the last few years. I have enjoyed it beyond measure and leave with so many good memories. I have two final visits and hopefully will see some of you there - so here's to our next merry meeting!

Members of the Allied Masonic Degrees are warmly invited to attend the flagship meeting of our Allied Masonic season: the Annual Meeting of the District of London 2025. This year is extra special as it will be preceded by the Installation of our new District Grand Prefect by the Grand Master himself.

The meeting will be held at Mark Masons’ Hall, 86 St. James’s Street, London on Saturday 15 November and attendees should be seated no later than 10.45am.

Members of all ranks - and especially those who are new to the Order - are encouraged to attend and support their Council, District and the new District Grand Prefect.

An Announcement from the District Grand Prefect

Greetings one and all.

Well, this message is a difficult one for me; there is good news and, for me, some sad news. The sad news is that I shall be standing down as District Grand Prefect for London, which will take place on the date of the next Grand Council meeting (28 October). The good news, again for me, is that the Grand Master has offered me the position of Deputy Grand Master which I have accepted. This is a huge honour for me and for our District of London. It is one that I am very pleased to take on and play my part to the best of my ability. It is also very humbling but I shall approach the role with determination and enthusiasm.

I cannot put into words how much the past few years as your District Grand Prefect have meant to me; they have been such an absolute pleasure - your friendship, companionship, your loyalty and unending support has been the highlight of my masonic career. We have achieved so much together - the District is strong and thriving, Councils are strong, membership grows, our District Officers are so committed and our reputation is enviable. Indeed, I thank all of the members who have held District Office during my tenure as you have all worked hard and been good company. Thank you for that and I wish you all well in the future. I will not be going far of course and you can be sure that I will pop in to meetings whenever I can!

As for now, the process is that I stand down on the evening before Grand Council and when I am Installed (please attend and support me) then our Deputy DGP – Scott - will become the District Grand Prefect in Charge. He will hold that Office until a new District Grand Prefect is Installed at the regular November District meeting on 15 November, and that person will be announced in due time, after Grand Council, once the Grand Master has made his choice.
